1989
The shelved original King of Hearts 1989 record was released to the public after 10 years (5 years later from their first album release) by the effort of Toshi Nakada, Cool Sound, Japan. From this, 4 songs: “Working Man”, “Don’t Call My Name”, “Lovin’ Arms” and “King Of Hearts” were re-recorded for their official 1994 1st album. “Remember When” were on their 2nd album (“Joy Will Come” in Japan and “Midnight Crossing” in Germany). “In So Many Words”, “Hold On To Love” and “Was It Good 4 U” (renamed as “Was It Good For You”) were included on the album “Midnight Crossing”. It means that we could listen to 2 tracks; “Smack Dab” and “Under The Gun” very first time on this shelved album. FYI, the album was reissued by Avenue Of Allies, Geramany (11090029) on 29 April, 2011 in Europe. Release Date: May 25, 1999 Label: COOL SOUND, Japan (COOL-029) Tracks: 1. Working Man 2. 3
Only a year later from “I Am Alive” release, Joseph Williams was releasing third solo album "3". Bearing in mind that Joseph had 14 demos as candidates for “I Am Alive” album and 6 songs were used for the album, and the bonus track “Never Let You Go” was supposed to be one of omitted, 7 songs were left as possible candidates for this “3” album. I do not know how many among them were completed for this album, but personally guessing several... Apart from the above, I was surprised to see the musicians credit on the album because of all the members' name of Toto; Mike Porcaro, David Paich, Steve Porcaro,Steve Lukather and further 2 ex Toto Vocalist, that is, Bobby Kimball and Fergie Frederiksen. That meant all the vocalists of Toto were singing together on the same track! In addition, Jay Graydon , Bill Champlin and Ned Doheny were also supporting Joseph! The sound of this album was more solid than his 2nd solo "I Am Alive" in general, probably because of real drums by Mark T. Williams, compared that only the song “I Am Alive” was with Jeff Porcaro on drums and others were no drums. You also note that Joseph covered his own composition "Man In Me" originally performed by Peter Cetera and also covers Beatles' "In My Life" on this album, which was a live recording in May 96 at The Desperado Tokyo. Last but not least, I should mention to Joey and Joseph that they were too kind to include me on the special thanks credit of the album! Very honoured. Release : 25 April, 1997 Label: Kitty Enterprise, Japan (KTCM-1064) Tracks: 1. I'm Giving Up On You 2. Goin' Home 3. For Your Love 4. Love In The Rear View Mirror 5. One Imperfect Heart 6. A Lyre In A Windstorm
Whilst Bruce Gaitsch produces and writes rock songs, he has also classical sense of music. His trademark must be acoustic guitar performance. In early and mid 1990’s Bruce was busy with Tommy Funderburk to release King Of Hearts albums and/or produced Fee Waybill, George Hawkins and Cy Curnin (Fixx) under his Edge of Fluke Music Group, Bruce also recorded his solo materials. The result was this first solo album featuring his old dudes; Richard Marx, Bill Champlin, Marc Jordan, Timothy B Schmit and many others. Needless to say p, with his spouse Janey Clewer. Very gentle album. After being released first in Japan and Sweden, German edition with a bonus track followed. Abraxas Pool
Whilst Neal Schon reunited with Steve Perry, Steve Smith and Ross Valory to record Journey’s tenth studio album “Trial by Fire” in early 1996, the "classic" line-up of Santana band; Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello, Michael Shrieve and José "Chepito" Areas, with Neal Schon (joined Santana in 1971 when the Santana III was released) got together intending to reproduce the original sound of Santana 30 years later and the result was fabulous Abraxas Pool. That happened because Neal Schon was obliged to wait for Steve Perry whether he wanted to tour or not due to physical issues. Neal Schon released his solo album Electric World in 1997, late forming the Abraxas Pool with former Journey member Gregg Rolie, Since Neal Schon decided to have Steve Augeri with Journey, replacing semi-retired Steve Perry, Abraxas Pool was ended after this album release. Adrian Gurvitz / Classic
Adrian Gurvitz's brightest music career was started when he joined the hard rock band "The Gun" and released the album "Gun" in 1968. Once Adrian Gurvitz disbanded the trio Gun, he started a new heavy rock project "Three Man Army" with his brother Paul and former Spooky Tooth drummer Mike Kellie, and released their debut album "Third Of Life Time" in 1971. "Threee Man Army", "Mahesha" and "Three Man Army II" followed. Adrian then embarked on another venture - "Baker Gurvitz Army", featuring legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker. The band recorded 3 albums, "Baker Gurvitz Army" (1974), "Elysian Encounter" (1975) and "Hearts Of Fire" (1976). In 1979, Adrian started solo career with the album for Jet Records, "Sweet Vendetta", followed by "Il Assassino" in 1980. These albums featured Adrian's softer side, with the slickly produced mellow soul sounds by getting full support of L.A. top studio session musicians such as David Paich and Jeff Porcaro. And in 1982 Adrian released this album "Classic". Release: 1982 Label: RAK Records, UK (SRAK 547) Tracks: 1. No Fears In The Night 2. Living Ain't Easy Without You 3. Hello New York 4. Your Dream 5. Adrian Gurvitz / No Compromise
“No Compromise" is the never-released album of Adrian Gurvitz recorded in 1983 together with his brother Paul, at Tower Studios Hampsted, North part of London.Gurvitz recorded this album, playing all instruments, changed his direction to a little bit the melodious hard-edge rock aiming popular in the mid 1980's. The material was rejected by his label, expecting more Soft Rock / Westcoast songs. As the result, the tape was shelved, fortunately resurrected and released in 2000 by Japanese label Cool Sound, released under the name "No Compromise". Air Supply / The Book Of Love
Air Supply had huge success in 1980 when they released their debut album “Lost In Love” on Arista, selling two million copies of the album led by the hit singles "Lost in Love," "All Out of Love," and "Every Woman in the World." However, their golden years did not last so long. After unsuccessful commercial sales of the 1986 album “Hearts in Motion”, the band broke up. Three years later, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, the two lead singers reunited and started to record new materials, thus the album “Earth Is...” was released, then did “ Vanishing Race” in 1993, “News From Nowhere” followed in 1995. However, those albums failed to make the charts in USA, whilst they were popular in Southeast Asian countries. Air Supply delivered their fourteenth studio album in the end of 1997. The album was a serious attempt for the band to penetrate the US charts, mainly focusing on mature adult contemporary songs and actually the album featured plenty of good melodies I thought then. Though the album didn't have any chart entries, the singles "So Much Love" and "When I Say" have gained critical acclaim in USA, although in Asia the single "Strong Strong Wind" was a big hit. Release: 9 December, 1997 (Japan: 17 December, 1997) Label: Giant Records, USA (9 24695-2) / Arista Records, Japan (BVCG-704) Tracks: 1. The Book Of Love 2. Strong, Strong Wind* 3. So Much Love 4.
